Human security, perspectives for the next generations and new forms of co-development have been at the heart of the debate of the first workshop of the Medthink 5+5, the think tank network launched this year under the impulse of the IEMed. The workshop, which took place in Tunis on 5 December, has been co-organised by the Tunisian Institute for Strategic Studies (ITES), one of the founding members of the network.

The first session of the meeting was devoted to the analysis of concepts of co-development and human security and the possibility of regional actors to strengthen the research in those areas with the aim to enhance channels for cooperation.

The workshop also served to address the causes of youth unemployment in the western Mediterranean countries as well as for outlining potential solutions and consider potential synergies in this regional framework.

Amid the conclusions of a debate which will have a continuity in the frame of the MedThink 5+5 network, the final report of the meeting highlights that the challenges concerning human security in the region will have to be confronted with more effective and inclusive initiatives in order to advance towards a social and economic integration.
